Why convert your bike to an e-bike?
The easiest route into e-bike ownership is, naturally enough, to buy an e-bike. But if you already have a conventional bike, it might be worth upgrading it to a pedal assist system.
Is my bike suitable to convert?
-
Given the range of conversion kits available, most bikes can potentially be upgraded.
-
The more "normal" your bike is, the better. If your bike uses common wheel sizes, axle standards and gears, you have more options.
-
There needs to be room somewhere for a battery. This can be a problem on very small bikes, but there's always a rack or bar-mounted option.
-
Heavier-duty bikes with sturdy frames and forks tend to work better than super-lightweight race bikes.
-
The added weight of the motor and battery makes an e-bike harder to slow down, so good brakes are a must.
